A Few Seats Left | Shrek the Musical

In case you have been living in a swamp, like Shrek, and haven’t heard the news, on Tuesday the 14th of December at 19:00, Dulwich International High School Suzhou will be staging the first performance of, what is perhaps, one of the most ambitious drama productions in the history of our school. The amount of effort that has gone into the production of Shrek the Musical, in such a short space of time, is breathtaking, and really needs to be seen to be believed. Our cast of performers across year groups have been practicing around the clock to bring you an amazing show. But it also takes a huge amount of effort behind the scenes to put on a show like this.

For the last few weeks, Ms. Park (Head of Drama and the Director of the show) has been working with the cast on their acting and choreography, as well as collaborating with teams of volunteers from our staff and students, to make bespoke tailored costumes, for the entire cast of the show. Mrs. Gibson (graphics design teacher and house parent at our school) together with a small group of students, have constructed an incredible 14-foot Dragon with a moving jaw, glowing eyes, and flapping wings. Mrs. Gibson is now known as the “Dragon Lady”. Sam Mulliner (our Director of Performing Arts), the musical director and producer of the show, has been devoting every waking moment over the last few months to ensure that our production of Shrek the Musical is an astounding success. The dedicated cast have been working tirelessly in their free time, to learn their lines, and the words to all the songs, practicing their singing until they are pitch perfect.

We are under strict instructions not to post any photos of the costumes, dragon, or rehearsals until after the show, so we don’t spoil the surprise! If you want to come and see what is sure to be a stunning performance of Shrek the Musical, please scan the QR code on the poster below to book your seat. If all seats are booked, you can register for our video premiere, which will take place in January 2022.

Shrek The Musical tells the story of an ogre whose swampy home is invaded by a ragtag bunch of fairy tale refugees. In trying to get his swamp back he meets new friends, a few enemies and is ambushed by – love. Our stage production includes some music from the 2001 movie but includes many new songs by Jeanine Tesori, with lyrics and script by David Lindsay-Abaire, for which he won a Tony Award in 2009.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

Due to epidemic restrictions, the audience for Shrek the Musical is limited to just 200 seats, most of which have already been booked. While we will be recording the show for future presentation, nothing compares with the experience of live theatre.
