Boarding at DHSZ: The Year Between the Photographs

Looking back on the 2025–2026 academic year, it feels almost impossible to capture everything that has happened within our boarding community in just a few words. Academic successes, student leadership, cultural celebrations and the everyday moments of growth: this has been a year filled with moments worth celebrating.

Five themes, in particular, defined the year in boarding.

Building a Culture of Belonging

In boarding, students feel known, valued and supported. Through mentoring, floor meetings, well-being initiatives and the countless conversations that took place away from the classroom, students have built meaningful relationships with each other and with staff.

For many, boarding has become a second home: a community where they can genuinely be themselves.

Growing in Character and Independence

Boarding creates space for personal development that is hard to find elsewhere. This year, students demonstrated resilience, responsibility and maturity as they balanced academics, co-curricular activities and residential life.

Whether managing their own routines, supporting a roommate or working through something difficult, they have grown into more confident and capable young adults.

Pursuing Excellence in Learning

Academic ambition remains at the heart of boarding life. Through supervised study sessions, peer support, and collaborative learning, students have been encouraged to challenge themselves.

Just as importantly, they have developed the habits, self-discipline, and perseverance that will stay with them long after they leave DHSZ.

Leading Through Service

Leadership was visible throughout the boarding community this year, and not only from prefects and formal student leaders, but also from those working behind the scenes. Students organised events, supported younger peers, welcomed new boarders and shaped the culture of the house.

Here, leadership means what you do for others.

Making an Impact Beyond Boarding

One of the highlights of this year was watching students look beyond themselves. Through community action, peer support, fundraising, cultural projects and global citizenship initiatives, they demonstrated compassion and a real desire to give something back.

In these moments, Dulwich Values were lived rather than recited: education extends beyond personal success and contributes something meaningful to the world around you.

As we mark the end of another year, we do so with real pride in everything our students have achieved. The photographs capture many of the highlights, but they tell only part of the story.

Behind every photograph is a friendship formed, a challenge overcome, a lesson learned or a memory made.

That is what makes DHSZ Boarding more than a place to live. It is a place where young people discover who they are, who they can become and how they can make a difference in the world.
