Supported and Never Alone: Why Choose Boarding at DHSZ Programme Suzhou?

The boarding programme at Dulwich International High School Programme Suzhou goes beyond offering a unique and enriching environment; it embodies a profound commitment to nurturing our students and help prepare them to live independently after they graduate from school. Boarding at DHSZ is not simply somewhere to sleep. It is where students learn to manage their own time, navigate friendships, discover what they are capable of on their own terms, and build the kind of quiet confidence that does not come from a classroom. Academic guidance, pastoral care and a full programme of activities are woven into daily life, not added on as extras. By the time students leave, they have not just earned their qualifications. They have grown into themselves.

Our Pastoral & Boarding Vision:

Everyone in our community feels safe, known, and cared for, so that they can strive to achieve their own success.

Academic guidance, pastoral care and a full programme of activities are woven into daily life, not added on as extras. By the time students leave, they have not just earned their qualifications. They have grown into themselves. While developing independence and cross-cultural communication skills, they gradually build a strong sense of responsibility, confidence and international-mindedness . These experiences complement classroom learning and are an essential part of the holistic education offered by our school.

Life in Boarding

“Boarding at Dulwich is an incredible experience. What I love most is the strong sense of community. We're not just students; we're a family, and our peers feel like our siblings. There are so many adults here who genuinely care about us and mentor us, not just academically but in life. We're given opportunities to take risks and learn how to persevere and develop resilience. It's a place where we grow, not just as students, but as individuals.”

Programmes We Offer

1. Academic

The academic support offered in residential life focuses not only on academic outcomes, but also on fostering students' sound learning habits, independent learning abilities and ways of thinking.

From Monday to Thursday every week, boarding students follow a schedule to complete daily study, revision and tasks. The school provides a variety of learning spaces, enabling students to stay focused and boost learning efficiency in their ideal surroundings.

Optional Study Session in Study Hall 1: 16:30–17:30, available in the dining hall, library or second-floor classrooms.

Mandatory Study Session in Study Hall 2: 18:30–20:00. This structured study period provides a quiet and focused environment where students can complete homework and review class materials.

Meanwhile, boarding staff and academic mentors offer personalized guidance to help students organise knowledge frameworks, tackle learning difficulties and gradually develop well-rounded learning strategies. Such support not only boosts academic progress but also inspires students to become proactive learners and independent thinkers, reflecting Dulwich International High School Programmes commitment to academic excellence to living our school values.

We take immense pride in our excellent mentoring programme. Our dedicated mentors provide unwavering support, guidance and a strong personal connection to our students. We believe in the power of mentorship to nurture their holistic development, both academically and personally.

Our mentors are not just educators but also role models who inspire and empower our students to excel in all aspects of life. We are committed to helping them reach their full potential and thrive as confident, well-rounded individuals.

3. Pastoral Care

Pastoral care and a commitment to safeguarding all our students are at the heart of everything we do.

Our dedicated team of professionals is committed to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for our students. We take a proactive approach to address their individual needs, fostering their emotional well-being, personal growth and overall development.

Through open communication, a strong sense of community and a genuine commitment to their success, we ensure that every student feels valued and supported. Pastoral care is not just a service; it's a way of life that helps our students thrive during their time with us.

No two students arrive the same way, want the same things, or get there at the same speed. Dulwich offers flexible and clearly structured pathways that help students choose the route best suited to their strengths and aspirations.

4. Weekend Learning Experiences

Weekend experiences in boarding are an eagerly anticipated highlight for all students. With the chance to embark on exciting adventures at least once a month, students have the opportunity to explore new horizons, experience diverse cultures and create unforgettable memories.

These experiences not only provide a break from academic routines but also offer valuable life experiences, fostering independence and strengthening friendships. Whether it's a cultural excursion, an outdoor adventure or a fun-filled outing, our weekend trips are a testament to our commitment to providing a well-rounded and enriching boarding experience.

Boarding at Dulwich International High School Programme is not separate from the excellent education we offer. It is part of it. The evenings, the shared meals, the quiet conversations after a long day, the small moments of independence that build into something larger over time: these are where a great deal of the real growing happens. We look after every student with care and with genuine attention to who they are as an individual, not just how they are performing academically.

If you are ready to find out whether boarding is the right fit for your child, we would love to welcome you into the community. The best way to know is to come and see it for yourself.
