Knight's experience at Dulwich built two significant foundations for him – crucial study habits, and an interest in the pursuit of the unknown. 

The overall teaching and studying environment at Dulwich, in his opinion, is a hybrid of “Laissez-faire” and “enforcement” (as a laudatory term) approaches, which helped him adapt to college study patterns more smoothly. Particularly, he developed decent time management skills, which certainly helped him to strike a study-life balance at university. 

On the other hand, classes and Co-Curricular Activities at DHSZ encourage students to explore outside the scope of tests (for example, the extended project), which helped to develop his interest in exploring new knowledge and broaden my frontiers. Overall, his experience at Dulwich allowed him to find his passion and helped him to prepare for the pursuit of it. 

 

What skills did he develope at Dulwich International High School Suzhou that are essential at university or wrok?

"I would say soft skills, particularly, communications skills and leadership skills. Largely due to language barriers, international students are less likely to participate in the CCAs offered by the university. Thanks to the numerous CCA opportunities offered in Dulwich (Yearbook Club and Video Challenge, for me, in particular), I had the chance to work on my soft skills, which facilitated my work at two departmental student associations. Without a doubt, these skills helped me greatly during my graduate study, during project presentations, and in my future work," said Knight.

Why does he continue to study for a PhD？

Knight joined a research project on bio-inspired materials in his junior year at the University of Toronto. Impressed by his work performance, Knight's professor encouraged him to apply for the PhD programme at the same university. After thorough consideration, he took the advice, because the research-oriented studies would allow him to work at his own pace. 

He likes to set short-term goals for both his studies and life. The joy this brings and, a sense of satisfaction brought by achieving these goals motivates him to work harder. 

He has chosen to study this because Metal AM technology has had a revolutionary impact on the manufacturing sector, and the future of its development is exciting.  

Future Plans

Knight wants to work at his university if he is still interested in academic research after he completes his PhD degree. His long-term goal for this career is to become a professor. 

Another plan is to work in the manufacturing industry. He is currently working on projects partnering with some major companies. If the projects end well, he may join one of these companies. As he is also interested in project management, he may study for an MBA degree later. 

Knight said, "As for now, I will focus on my studies and research, while remaining open to other opportunities."
