Emory and Northeastern University ED Offers!

Whilst most early decision first round (ED1) decisions have not yet been announced, we are excited that four Dulwich International High School Suzhou students have already been offered places at leading US universities through the ED1 system! ED is the abbreviation of Early Decision. As the name suggests, the school decides to accept an applicant early. Unlike ordinary applications, a student can only choose one school to apply for an ED. If they are accepted, they can only accept the offer to enter the school and must withdraw any applications to other schools. Therefore, students who choose to apply for ED normally do so to their first choice. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to the students who have already received these offers:

- Two students have received ED1 offers from Emory University. Emory University is ranked #21 in the 2021 US News National Universities Rankings and reported a record year of ED1 applications. As only 13% of students at Emory University are international, our students’ acceptances are particularly pleasing.
- Two students have received ED1 offers from Northeastern University. Located in the academic hub of Boston, Northeastern University ranked #49 in the 2021 US News National Universities Rankings.
All four students said that the college counselling team helped them a lot in the application process. One highlighted that his college counsellor gave him a full understanding of Northeastern University before applying, including details of the programs on offer, and internship opportunities. They consider that their college counsellor is very responsible and patient. Another explained how the counselling office gave a lot of help with essays, encouraging them to write from their own personal experience, in order to show their enthusiasm and determination for studying their chosen majors. An accepted student of Emory said that they had participated in the summer school program of Emory University and liked the small-class learning atmosphere of the school, so decided to apply there. Their college counsellor helped them turn their own experience into vivid and interesting stories, which added weight to their application.

Most universities will make their ED1 offers around mid-December.
Through a combination of the experience and careful guidance of our college counselling office, the strength of the Dulwich network, and our close relationships with colleges, our students are supported to submit applications to ‘best fit’ universities and colleges. These demonstrate how our students excel in academics and beyond. Success in university placements is only one aspect of success at Dulwich; our holistic approach focuses on preparing students to graduate worldwise – equipped to thrive at college and in all areas of life. Through our ‘alumni in the spotlight’ series, we know that our students are highly successful once they arrive at university and after they leave.
Finally, we would like to congratulate these four outstanding students once again and give our best wishes for the students awaiting their ED results!
