Students Innovate at HakD 2024

From March 16 to 17, students from CS and SE21 at DHSZ joined nearly 100 students from 7 schools China in the HakD 2024 hackathon hosted at Dulwich College Shanghai Pu Dong. The theme this year was “Need for speed.”

Each pair of students was paired with another pair of students from a different school to form a team for solving a problem related to speed.

After finding out their teammates, the teams attended a keynote speech by a DCSPD and Stanford alumna Dr Chan on efficiently making products that make a difference.

The teams were presented with several problems aligned with a theme of “Need for speed” ranging from high speed robot movement, high speed transportation, and more inclusive racing.

After brainstorming possible solutions, the students selected crash course workshops to attend to learn new skills that could help them create a solution for the selected scenario.

The workshops included topics related to hardware (e.g., physical computing using Micro:bit), software (e.g., 3D design with Blender), and theory (e.g., algorithm space and time complexity). After the rest of the 2 days was spent prototyping their solutions, and preparing to showcase their project to judges and invited guests.
