The library has these kinds of magazines on offer. The magazine is called “How it works”, a world-famous science magazines for young adults.
How do magazines help to improve vocabulary?
Take an example of an article in its March 2022 issue named “How do fish breath”.
- Each sentence has about 20 words.
- There are only 5 paragraphs.
- The entire 5 paragraphs introduce one topic: gills.
- The words in the article are also mentioned in your textbooks.
The more you contact, the more you remember.
How does the magazine help to improve comprehension skills?
Using the same example, if we only read text, some know knowledge is still abstract. The magazine offers pictures to help us understand the abstract key points. When the article mentions the process of breathing using its gills. The second page of the article show a diagram to explain the steps of breathing.
How do articles help us to understand a given topic?
The article explores how the golden fishes use gills to breathe under the water, it also uses comparisons to explain why golden fish can rely on the gills breathing underwater and why gills only work under the water.
