High School Team Maths 2026 | A Shared Challenge at DHSZ, Coming Soon

Each year, the High School Team Maths (HSTM) competition brings together students who see mathematics not only as a subject, but as a language for reasoning, collaboration, and discovery.

In 2026, HSTM continues its tradition at Dulwich International High School Programme Suzhou (DHSZ), bringing two days of shared challenge on Fridaythe 6th and 7th of March 2026.

With teams already confirmed from Seoul, Shanghai, Zhuhai, and beyond. We warmly welcome high school teams who are eager to test ideas, think together, and experience mathematics in a dynamic, team-based environment.

High School Team Maths

HSTM is a two-day mathematics competition designed for students aged 15 to 18, conducted in English and built around the belief that strong mathematical thinking develops powerfully through collaboration. Over the course of the competition, teams engage in six carefully designed rounds, each presenting a different mode of challenge:

  • Mathematician
  • Shuttle
  • Duel
  • Crypto
  • Lightning
  • Codebreaker

Together, these rounds call on precision, speed, strategy, and communication, rewarding not only individual insight but collective problem-solving. Schools are recognised across a range of award categories, alongside overall team honours.

  • Beyond the competition itself, HSTM also creates space for reflection and exploration. A guest lecture invites participants to engage with mathematical ideas from new perspectives, while the Maths Trail, set within a local area of interest, encourages students to observe and interpret mathematics as it appears in the world around them, shifting from competition pace to thoughtful inquiry.

  • Teacher Professional Learning will also be offered during HSTM 2026. We are delighted to welcome Ron Lancaster, Associate Professor Emeritus at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, who will lead professional learning sessions for teachers. Ron will also contribute to the design of the Maths Trail, bringing his extensive experience in mathematics education to the programme.

A Pathway to the World Mathematics Championships

HSTM is proud to continue its collaboration with the World Mathematics Championships (WMC), a globally recognised competition that brings together outstanding young mathematicians from around the world.

Teams who achieve top honours at HSTM will be awarded “golden tickets” to the WMC Finals, held at Imperial College London, with qualifiers invited to attend in July 2026. This partnership offers students a rare opportunity to extend their learning beyond regional boundaries and take part in a truly international mathematical exchange.

Eligibility and Registration

  • Teams consist of four students
  • A minimum of two team members must not be in their final year of high school
  • Participants must be 15 years old or above as of 1 January 2026
