Lecture Corner: Art History

Several students explained the development of art to the audience in a way that was easy to understand:

• Ceiling frescoes full of religious culture in ancient times,
• Realist’s paintings were gradually developed and people-oriented.
• Impressionism is beautiful and subtle.
• Modernism is difficult to understand.
• Expressionism can be weird and strange.
• Pop art full of modern and commercial flavour.

We discussed many categories of art that students had not heard of before, that they found very interesting.  We showed the development of art in a humorous way. Even those who know little about art can learn the charm of art from the lecture.

The millennium-long "Dark Age" of the Middle Ages ended with the start of the Renaissance. The Renaissance movement that influenced the western world began in Florence, and countless art categories flourished during this era.

The PowerPoint listed many names and paintings that non-art students often hear and covers the birth and development of three-dimensional structure and perspective and reflected on the artists' financial support from the Medici family. The audience was impressed with the profound knowledge on display. Jeff and Robert strived to recreate that distant period. Although most of the artworks were not fully developed, their presentation showcased the beauty of art.

The second part of the presentation was Lawrence, an art student from Year 13, who told the story of the golden period of the whole of art history including the Renaissance. There are countless artists and works of art to talk about in this period and Lawrence presented from the perspective of timelines and artists. Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and great artists like Leonardo da Vinci, Francois Boucher and Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn were interwoven in the long history. These works are worth our careful consideration, Lawrence expressed this vividly in a humorous way and answered many questions.

Six humorous and passionate students marked a successful ending at the third lecture corner event. Jeff, Robert, Lawrence, Karlie, Monica, and Jeffery told us about the Renaissance to contemporary art history. Their speech was easy to understand and humorous, allowing the listener to walk through the universe of art. The PowerPoint showcased different, representative works from each era, with vivid images depicting unique characteristics. Six speakers with different characteristics gave speeches in their own ways.
