My View on Story of the Stone
Why do we read literature? One of the reasons is the work leaves room to develop critical thinking skills. If we express these thoughts, either verbally or in writing, we can start a conversation allowing more analytical thoughts to grow and develop.
Therefore I would like to introduce you to the work of Tina, one of our Y10 students. She has been a great fan of "Story of the Stone" written by Cao Xueqin since her childhood. In this article, she studied Daiyu, one of the main characters of the book. Her work expresses her views on the main character - Daiyu, some parts of which are different from the views of many other scholars。
"Story of the Stone" vividly describes the glory and decline of the Jia family in the Ming Dynasty. The characters in the story are complex and multifaced. The plot developments are often associated with personal development characters in the story. How does the author describe personal development? Tina’s view on one of the main characters Diyu, Lin sets an example to the question.
First of all, I would like to thank Mrs. Zhao for her trust and for giving me this opportunity to express some of my own opinions and views on the "story of stone”.
One of the major differences of “the story of stone” is that the author Cao Xueqin wrote about the gradual decline of a large feudal family. Whether in family, love or official career, they are all going to lose. There is a lantern riddle in the book that points to this indirectly. Therefore, in the ending which was written by Gao E, the final scene is Baoyu walking in the snow in a red robe. It seems to be an open ending, but in fact, it can be regarded as a tragic ending. In Chinese classical novels, this is rare.
Since I want to write a point of view, it is important to talk about my most favourite role. Many people think that Daiyu is hypocritical, but I do not. Lin Daiyu's fate can be said to be quite tragic. From her birth, entering Jia Mansion, and her love entanglement with Baoyu, her tears have never stopped. Daiyu lives to pay Baoyu's tears in her life. She is an extremely intelligent woman. After entering Jia Mansion, she has been composing poems and essays with her sisters, showing extremely high artistic talent. When Shi Xiangyun joined the club, he once invited everyone to eat crabs and chrysanthemums. In the process, everyone wrote poems to meet the scene. Everyone else had already completed it. Only Lin Daiyu took the time to make a fortune in the last time and made the eternal story. Daiyu is also a person who understands the world and considers others. When she first entered Jia Mansion, Jia's mother led her to her side and asked if she had read a book. She answered that she had read the Four Books and Five Classics. But when she later learned that the other sisters hadn't read a lot of books, when Jia's mother asked again, her answer became that she had only read a little book. She will always show her delicacy and care where others don't know.
As I mentioned before, there are thousands of Hamlet in the eyes of a thousand people, and so is the case in “the story of stone”. The reason why Cao Xueqin wrote this masterpiece is hope that the future generations can draw their own truths and opinions from this book and apply them to their daily lives.
