Online learning with the DHSZ Scholars Programme
On 1st March, we were lucky enough to have a rather important guest speaker as part of our online learning through the Scholars Programme. Katherine Mathieson, the incoming Director of the Royal Institution in London, spoke to us and took student questions for an hour. The Royal Institution is one of the world’s oldest and most famous centres for science research and communication. Her talk covered themes such as the importance of teamwork, communication and other soft skills in the field of science, the importance of embracing change and flexibility in career pathways and in life and she also gave a range of personal insights into what it means to be a scientist.
Katherine was highly complementary about the high standard of questions that were posed by students, and it is a testament to their commitment to online learning that so many students were actively engaged in this event at the end of a long school day. We were joined in this event by Dulwich International High School in Zhuhai and Dulwich College Suzhou, our sister campuses.
A Cambridge and Imperial College London graduate, Katherine has spent her distinguished career in the field of science communication, including senior roles as Head of Future Innovators at NESTA and Director of Education and Director of Programmes at the British Science Association (BSA). She is the newly appointed Director of the prestigious Royal Institution.
The Dulwich Scholars Programme is all about elite university preparation and academic enrichment. The Scholars Programme is by invitation only. Only students with the highest zhongkao scores in year 10 and students with the highest proven records of assessment in years 11, 12 and 13 are invited to join.
