Open Day: Discover How Students Thrive in International Education
When students move from a domestic curriculum into an international education pathway, the most important change is not simply the course titles. What truly shifts are the ways students learn, how they engage with the curriculum, how they are assessed, and how their long-term academic journey is designed.
At the Dulwich International High School Programme Suzhou Open Day on the 18th of April, families will gain a clear understanding of how international education works in practice.
Through five key themes, the event will introduce the DHSZ academic framework and how students are supported in building strong foundations for future university pathways.
A Truly International Education
International education is more than learning in English and passing an IELTS assessment. It is also about developing new ways of thinking and learning.
At DHSZ, students study the IGCSE and A Level curriculum in a fully English academic environment, where classroom learning emphasises discussion, inquiry, and independent thinking. Our international teaching team brings together diverse academic perspectives, helping students gradually develop confidence, intellectual independence, and a global outlook.
For students transitioning from domestic systems, the school also provides structured transition support, including academic English development and guidance on adapting to new learning methods.
Academic Excellence & University Pathways
Strong university outcomes begin with a clear academic structure.
During the Open Day, families will gain insight into:
- The structure of the IGCSE and A Level curriculum
- Subject selection strategies
- How subject combinations support different university pathways
DHSZ also has a fully in-house University and Careers Counselling (UCC) team, supporting students throughout the university application process, including:
- One-to-one university pathway planning
- Careers guidance
- University research and positioning
- Application strategy development
- Personal statement guidance and revisions
- Official submission of documents and communication with universities
University preparation at DHSZ is a long-term process, developed alongside students' academic learning and personal growth.
Holistic Education & Strength of Character
Education extends beyond the classroom.
At DHSZ, students participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities, sports teams, academic competitions, projects, and leadership opportunities.
Through these experiences, students develop responsibility, resilience, and teamwork. Character is not simply discussed; it is built through participation, challenge, and collaboration.
This holistic development prepares students for the academic intensity and diverse environments of leading global universities.
Academic English Development
Success in an international curriculum requires more than subject knowledge. Students must also develop the ability to read critically, write academically, and express ideas clearly in English.
At DHSZ, academic English development is embedded across the curriculum. Students learn to build arguments, analyse texts, participate in discussions, and produce structured academic writing.
These skills form an essential foundation for future university study and to thrive in global professional settings.
Global Opportunities: The Dulwich Network
Joining DHSZ means becoming part of the global Dulwich education network.
Students benefit from opportunities that extend beyond a single campus, including cross-school collaboration, global events, and a worldwide alumni community.
This international network expands both students' learning opportunities and their perspectives.
Dulwich Scholars Programme
The Open Day will also introduce the Dulwich Scholars Programme, designed to support students with strong academic potential.
The programme includes two components:
- Scholarship Opportunities: Students may receive full or partial scholarships for 3–4 years, recognising academic potential and overall achievement.
- Academic Mentorship & Enrichment: Besides scholarships, all motivated students can access mentorship opportunities and academic exploration projects with teachers.
This ensures that opportunities for deeper learning remain open to students who show curiosity and commitment.
Supporting the Transition
Many families considering international education ask similar questions:
- Can students adapt to an English-speaking academic environment?
- How challenging is the international curriculum?
- What support is available during the transition period?
During the Open Day, we will explain the admissions assessment process and transition support, helping families better understand how students move from a domestic education pathway into international learning.
