2022 Week Without Walls

Our Week Without Walls trip took place successfully. This is an important part of our curriculum as it helps develop student-teacher relationships, confidence and peer bonding. A big thank you to all our students, staff and families who helped make this trip possible.

Year 10

During the WWW, Year 10 students had different activities, including paddle boarding, rock climbing, bike riding, catapult, handy craft, etc. All of these activities may look fun but have Dulwich's pedagogical approach embedded in them. These activities allowed our students plenty of chances to shine and build on their various skills. This also happened to be our learning principle of the week.

We at Dulwich pride ourselves at have scientifically proven pedagogical approach and these learning principles are at its core.

WWW is not similar to a spring outing that most schools do. WWW is a tool for us to embed our pedagogical approach in our students and is a key part of our curriculum.

Year 11&IG1

Y11 and IG1 students got involved in various outdoor and cultural activities, including a treetop challenge course, bike ride, kayaking, orienting and a hairy crab cultural activity.

Overall, the students had a fantastic time, but don’t take my word for it, hear what the students had to say:

I like this Treetop challenge; it helped to build a better relationship between my classmates and teachers.

Peter S

On the trip, I enjoyed it a lot. Activities there are entertaining, teachers and tour guides are friendly. It’s an excellent opportunity to travel around with my classmates. This experience is valuable to me; As we get older, we wouldn't have this kind of relationship with others. I enjoyed it a lot.

Lily Z

We’ve done many exciting activities: treetop adventuring, learning hairy crab culture, kayaking and cycling. I had a good time. Also, there were so many teamwork games. Such as the activity we did on the first night we arrived. We were separated into small groups, and to win the game, everyone had to work hard and collaborate well. All in all, everyone did well, and we enjoyed ourselves.

Year 12

Year 12 students had a rotation of activities across the four days. These included team-building activities, high-ropes, climbing, beach Olympics, survival skills, raft building and everyone’s favourite, kayaking. Students were joined by some Year 13 leaders who helped organise the students and supports the group leaders organise the various activities. Most students and teachers agreed that the activities that involved water were the most enjoyable. The weather was perfect, some might say too good!

The trip was a great opportunity for students to experience a different type of learning and gain skills that cannot be taught in the classroom. Whether it was taking risks climbing high walls or survival skills like building fires or purifying water every student took home something new they had learned and a lot of unforgettable memories that they will keep with them for the rest of their lives. Teachers also enjoyed spending time with students in a less formal setting and especially having the opportunity to splash the students with water on the lake.

Whilst holistic learning takes place every day, in every lesson at Dulwich, this approach takes on an entirely new dimension during the Week Without Walls.
