Hispanic Festival

Today was another first for DHSZ as we celebrated the Spanish language and Spanish culture. Mr. Passos, our Spanish teacher, organised a delightful assembly for the Year 10, IG1 and Year 11 this morning to celebrate all things Spanish. It started with a quiz about Spanish artist, culture, food and football teams and the student with the highest score in each form class of Year 10 and 11 was awarded a book about Spain as a prize.

The assembly opened with a typical Spanish dance, the flamenco, which is dance from the southern Spanish regions of Andalusia, Extremadura and Murcia and the programme also included a video made by some Year 11 students depicting a historical reenactment of the conquest of Granada and Miranda Zhao singing the Spanish song Nada by Shakira.

There were also a number of workshops at lunchtime, including a Spanish Language Survival course, Spanish football, Spanish secret recipes, flamenco dancing, Spanish guitar and the making of a short film. The dining hall provided a very special and delicious Spanish lunch menu today featuring traditional Spanish dishes, like paella and custard crème brûlée. Special thanks go to Mr. Vitor Passos for arranging this fun and informative day; to Ms. Tingting Li for choreographing and guiding the dancers and to Ms. Ng and her team for supporting the arrangements and organising the lunch. We now all know more about Spain and Spanish culture and traditions than we did before the Hispanic Festival.
