Dulwich International High School Suzhou Teacher, Michelle Niu ’s teaching methods were recently incorporated into a TESOL publication called "New Method of Game Teaching"
What is TESOL
The TESOL is a certificate obtained after passing the TESOL course. TESOL is the abbreviation of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. As a professional course in English pedagogy, its theme is to explore the methods of English teaching. At present, there are many TESOL education and training institutions in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand that have formal qualifications. The certificates issued by each institution have their own characteristics and are not affiliated with each other. TESOL certificates issued by these institutions can be used for teaching English as a second foreign language on a global scale.

1 Can you tell us a bit about your approach to teaching with games?
Games motivate learners because they tend to simulate real-world actions. Students feel encouraged to actively participate in an activity because games often include winners, losers and awards. Teaching with games promotes interaction among students and helps them to learn a new concept in a more interesting setting.
2 How is teaching with games beneficial to learning?
Students learn so much through games because games give them comfortable and engaging environments that can also promote learning. Teaching with games can make what used to be a repetitive exercise into something more meaningful and fun.
3 Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I was born in Harbin and my family moved to Tianjin when I was in primary school.
4 Tell us about your Educational background + teaching experience
I received my Master’s degree from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and my Bachelor’s degree from Monash University. I completed my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) at Sunderland University. I worked as an English teacher in Zhuhai before.
5 When did you realize you wanted to become a teacher?
After I completed my tertiary education overseas, I found myself interested in teaching English. I received lots of encouragement from my teachers when I was a student. Therefore, becoming a teacher and helping students to realize their potential is what I’ve always wanted to do.
6 What are your hobbies and what do you enjoy most about them?
I love travelling to different countries with my family or friends and tasting the local food there!
7 What is the single most rewarding thing about your job?
Every day is different and exciting for me as a teacher. Each day is a chance to work with young minds and teach them new things. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing my students grow and succeed.
8 How do you find teaching students at Dulwich International High School Suzhou?
The students at Dulwich International High School Suzhou are all very creative and have a strong teamwork ability. They learn from their teachers and peers and they seize every opportunity in their learning process.
