Simon Johnston

Assistant Director (Boarding)

Simon is a New Zealand National and currently the Head of Residential Life and Pastoral Care at United World College, East Arica (UWCEA) Moshi, and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Simon is currently responsible for over 200 residential students from PYP through to DP, teaches Diploma (various courses) and oversees the Student Government and Sustainability Committee. He believes this experience has been an uplifting and rewarding journey working within the UWC context and he is thrilled to be adding value through building and improving residential program’s holistically to be inclusive, engaging and fostering an environment of academic excellence.

Simon has been teaching for 13 years and throughout his career in New Zealand and abroad, he has been given an increasing amount of responsibility. He was employed at UWCEA as a member of their Senior Leadership Team to reinvigorate their residential programme and student leadership. Previously, he was teaching and leading numerous departments at Saint Kentigern College New Zealand, having experienced being both a curriculum leader and pastoral leader in various capacities.  In addition to his Senior Leader commitments, he is also the curriculum leader for Geography within their International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.  Prior to this, he was both the Head of Admissions, Director of International Students, and a Boarding Master in New Zealand.  Simon enjoys all sports, outdoor pursuits and is passionate about climate change action.
