First Classes of US College Credits

After a semester of hard work and commitment, the Year 12 students in our Liberal Arts and Digital Arts classes have now been issued with their US college credit grades, thanks to our partnership with Marquette University and the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD.) These are signature student pathways which are offered in conjunction with our usual AS courses, which is only available at DHSZ. Delivered by DHSZ teaching staff, these courses have involved our Year 12 student completing US university undergraduate level work which is two years ahead of their grade level, which is a remarkable testament to the grit and determination of our students.

These US college transcripts are transferrable to virtually all US universities and colleges as well as a wide range of institutions in other countries (read more here), and will help these students to lay the foundations of success in their future university preparations.

We are currently registering for the next round of US college credit courses for Liberal Arts, Digital Arts and now our signature English Rhetoric course, which will be delivered this semester.

"When we were writing our essays, Mr Steve Hodgkin would explain to us some case studies on the topic, and he would also let us read some materials to have a deeper understanding of the topic. What impressed me most was the Mid-term essay, which required us to combine two essays to find the connection between them. The two topics I chose at the time were World Migration Trends and Primary Products in Latin America. I did a search on the internet and when I went to connect the two, I realized that immigrants mostly come from relatively backward countries like Latin America and the countries they move to tend to be developed countries in Europe and Asia. I thought this paper was interesting because it helped me broaden my horizons and learn more about the connections between global events.

"I believe that the Marquette program has developed my critical thinking and improved my problem-solving skills. In addition, participating in Marquette courses can bring new insights and challenges to individuals and improve our abilities and potential. For example, we learned how to find valid information while searching online. Also, taking Marquette courses is a process of self-enrichment. I think taking Marquette courses can help us understand the basic pattern of college courses before we enter university, so that we can adapt to university life faster later."

"Regarding myself, I am specifically interested in Cultures, History and Philosophy and many other studies that are related to humans, which I also read a lot of books about. From my own perspective, they are the lenses that help me see the world in a more scientific and objective way. Unfortunately, courses in regard to these subjects are not provided in our school, due to various complicated reasons. However, the Marquette Course, which generally involves anthropology and sociology, covers a wide range of knowledge and practices in terms of these subjects. Therefore, I choose this course in order to build up my critical thinking and writing skills and develop a more comprehensive perspective on the human society."

"I first knew about Marquette Art course when I came to choose my AS subjects in Dulwich. I was sure that I would take Art as my major in the future, and I need more time spent on my portfolio. Then I learned about the course from the teachers. It was new for me to learn some graphic design skills and how to create artworks on my device since I am a fine art student. The course helps me a lot in combining different media and art formats to achieve more creative effects indeed."

"I initially decided to attend Marquette because I was attracted to what the program taught. I like to study humanities and social sciences, and I am very interested in National Geography and sociology in Marquette's courses. At the same time, I learned that completing the courses in Marquette can get credits from Marquette University, which will also be helpful for my application.

"The most impressive thesis I ever wrote was about the geography of Europe. We compare all aspects of European countries in our classes, from climate and topography to ethnicity and language, and even part of history. I am very interested in European geography and have done all kinds of research. Finally, I expressed my own understanding and opinions while presenting what I learned in the paper, which was affirmed by the teacher.

"I think taking the humanities program at Marquette gave me a better understanding of the world. After studying world geography and sociology, I have learned about the differences of various cultures, the impact of climate, and the reasons for the gap between the rich and the poor. At the same time, the writing task has also greatly improved my paper writing level."
