Go Dragons! DHSZ Sports Day 2024
On Tuesday 22nd October, our school held the annual sports day. Students were extremely excited for this after waiting a week due to the rain postponing the original date.
#Recap of the Highlights
The morning schedule was split into two sections with the athletic competition at the Suzhou High School SIP track, while the remaining students competed in fun and lively activities at Dulwich International High School in the gym.
Students enjoyed the range of activities in the morning, especially the flag rugby tournament and Dodgeball in the gym, along with other team competitions. It was a close call between all 4 Houses throughout the morning gym activities, with House Soong becoming eventual winners by a small margin of 5 points.
While over at the track the morning saw students competing for the field events and 1500m, 800m and 400m finals and qualifications for the 100m and 200m races with the finals for these events to happen in the afternoon.
In the afternoon all the students and staff headed over to Suzhou High School SIP to take part in the final events of the day and compete for the Sports Day Cup. The Wings Plan and various other service groups did an outstanding job selling assorted items with the proceeds going to their respected charity organisations.
All four Houses competed with intensity to try and gain the final points for the cup. The Relay events proved to be favorites among the crowd cheering for their houses to win.
The students’ Tug of war event saw a strong final between Soong house and Turing house with Soong house being the eventual winner on the day. The Staff tug-of-war was a highlight for students to cheer and support, which was won by Currie House with Turing Staff finishing in second position.
The Staff Relay on the other hand was a tough race, between all the Houses, with Turing House showing their speed, finishing well before the Houses. The last 20m of the race saw Currie House pass Soong for an amazing finish for second place.
Four special awards are awarded on sports day to the students who have the highest overall individual points after five events. These awards are called the Victor Ludorum for Boys and Victrix Ludorum for Girls which is Latin for “the winner of the games”. The categories are Junior Boys, Senior Boys, Junior Girls, and Senior Girls. This year’s winners are the following outstanding students:
Lucas S - Junior Boys Soong House
Evelyn W - Junior Girls Mandela House
Tony T - Senior Boys Mandela House (second year in a row winner)
Joy C - Senior Girls Currie House (second year winner, last year winning junior girls)
