British Biology Olympiad 2022 Awards
In April of 2022, twenty-six outstanding biologists undertook the British Biology Olympiad (BBO). This competition tested their knowledge and understanding of the A-level syllabus and applying their skills to challenging questions. The BBO began in 1995 and is one of the largest competitions in the UK. It enables students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in Biology and tests them against their peers across the globe.
This year our students achieved two gold, four silver, and seven bronze awards. Along with seven highly commended students and three commended students. We would like to recognize Joe W in Year 11 and Amanda L in Year 12 who both achieved the gold award certification as well as being placed in the national top 10% of students in China.
Students who wish to pursue a career in a biological field or have a passion for biology are encouraged to take part in the BBO each year and are invited to attend the BBO Co-curricular group to prepare for the 2023 BBO competition.
We will also be inviting students in year 10 and year 11 who have an interest in biology to take part in the Biology Challenge (BC) and the Intermediate Biology Olympiad (IBO).
The BC and IBO tests knowledge and understanding of the IGCSE syllabus, but the competitions will also reward students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes, taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and are generally aware of our natural flora and fauna.
If you wish to find out more, please contact the Biology Department. We look forward to even more success in the competition next year.
