Announcing New Deputy Head (Academic)

We are delighted to announce that DHSZ is about to welcome a new member with a truly international perspective and exceptional leadership – Mr Anthony George, who will assume the role of Deputy Head (Academic) for the Academic Year 2025/26, starting this August.

With over 25 years’teaching experience and a master’s degree in physics from Oxford, Mr George’s rigorous thinking and problem‐solving abilities have helped him excel in both teaching and school management at international schools. His career journey – spanning the UK, Hong Kong China, Cambodia, and most recently his position as Director of Secondary Academic Studies (Deputy Head) at the British School of Bucharest in Romania – has enriched his professional expertise and deepened his understanding of diverse educational contexts.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr George has steadfastly embraced a student-centred philosophy, asserting that placing students at the heart of their learning is key to unlocking their full potential and fostering holistic development. He advocates for adapting teaching approaches to local cultural contexts and cultivating sincere, effective interactions with students. By implementing tailored support strategies, he not only enhances academic performance but also nurtures students' self-management and critical thinking skills. This balanced educational approach, which harmonises academic achievement with personal growth, has enabled him to design bespoke development programmes for students across diverse regions.

Mr George places significant emphasis on enhancing academic performance while concurrently safeguarding students’overall wellbeing. He believes that, especially under academic pressure, educators should transcend the traditional role of knowledge transmitters to become mentors and partners in students' learning journeys. As he highlighted in the interview, mentoring approaches—particularly at upper school levels—can assist students in recognising their own limitations, fostering self-management skills, and achieving optimal academic progress.

His extensive international educational experience has provided him with a profound insight into the unique educational wisdom embedded within every culture. These invaluable experiences have continually propelled him to blend multicultural perspectives with practical expertise, bringing fresh insights and practical wisdom to the school. With his deep proficiency in Physics, problem-solving, and international educational management, Mr George is poised to help Dulwich reach even greater heights in both teaching and the holistic development of its students.

We extend a very warm welcome to Mr Anthony George as he joins the Dulwich family. Under his guidance, we look forward to seeing our students achieve outstanding academic results and grow in all aspects of life, connecting confidently with the wider world.
