Counselling During COVID-19

The process of choosing a college for your child is both exciting and challenging. As you embark on this process with your child at Dulwich International High School Suzhou, ‘Best Fit’ is a phrase that you will hear frequently.

Our counselling department encourages each family to look for the university that is a ‘best fit’ for the needs and interests of their child. A university should offer an abundance of opportunities for students to explore, experience, learn and find their strengths and to become the very best person they can.

ur highly qualified and experienced university counselling team understands how important it is to not only help students find a university that meets their academic needs, but also one that meets their extra-curricular and social-emotional needs.

Some questions that every student will need to consider while refining their shortlist of options might include:

 1   What will my results be?

 2   What am I interested in studying? Is my major more general or niche?

 3  What countries am I interested in?

 4  Would I prefer a large university with lots of options and resources or a smaller college with more of a community feel?

Remember that when students are at university, they won’t only focus on their studies. Student organizations and clubs are a great way to meet people and develop networks while also furthering a student’s education, social life, and interests.

Finally, one of the most undervalued ways to choose a college is by the ‘feel’ that you get from it. In current times when you cannot visit the college in person or meet representatives from the college in person, the next best option is through virtual fairs. Dulwich International High School Suzhou has a wide offering of universities participating in our ‘virtual visit’ series this year. The universities include the University of Exeter, University of Warwick, George Mason University, Northeastern University, Nagoya University, The University of Sydney, Art Centre College of Design, amongst others. Every student is encouraged to attend the virtual fairs on offer, ask questions and engage in the presentations.

Even though this year is different from most, our counselling department is experienced and ready to assist every student to identify their university of ‘best fit’.
