Meet Our New Teachers!

As the new academic year approaches, Dulwich International High School Programme Suzhou is delighted to welcome a group of vibrant new educators to our community. Coming from a range of countries and professional backgrounds, they bring with them a wealth of teaching experience and a passion for inspiring young minds. 

 

In this season of new beginnings, we are pleased to introduce the teachers who will soon bring fresh energy and inspiration to our classrooms and beyond.

Anthony George

Deputy Head (Academic)

Anthony George is a British national who grew up in Hampshire. After graduating in Physics from Oxford University, he completed a PGCE at King’s College, London, and then taught in the UK state sector for four years. Anthony has always wanted to see the world and has taught and filled leadership positions in schools in Hong Kong, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and, most recently, in Romania where he is the Director of Academic Studies at the British School of Bucharest. Along the way, he completed an MA in Applied Educational Leadership from University College, London. In his free time, Anthony loves solving cryptic crosswords, reading, travelling and spending time with his family. He is also somewhat obsessed with the noble sport of Rugby Football Union.

Arian Martinez

Mathematics Teacher

Arian Martinez is originally from Cuba and holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, an MBA from Matanzas University, and a Master's Degree in Management, Sciences, and Engineering from Jiangsu University. His teaching journey began ten years ago as an associate professor of Mathematics and Applied Statistics at Matanzas University. For the past two years, he has been teaching CIE Mathematics at a high school in Wuhan. Arian strongly believes in the power of education and is deeply passionate about teaching students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading good books, and watching cartoons. 

Carl Binstead

Head of Art

Carl Binstead originates from the UK where he graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA(hons) in Three-Dimensional Design. After some time as a freelance Artist and Designer, Carl gained a PGCE in Art and Design from St.Martins. He is currently working on an Art and Design terminology book for Chinese/international Art students. Carl has been teaching Art and Design in China since 2006, mostly as Head of Department or Director of Arts. In his free time, Carl enjoys swimming and cycling, he continues to have great interest in the Arts developing a series of abstract works over several years and recently designing domestic contemporary furniture for his own use. 

Rhoda Oteki

Mathematics and General Science Teacher

Rhoda Oteki is a Kenyan national. She graduated with a B.Ed. (Science) in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Nairobi. She is currently a CAIE Assessment Specialist. She has been teaching Math for seven years, first at St. Christopher’s International School, and most recently at Hangzhou Foreign Languages School, where she has been an AS and A Level Math teacher for the past two years. In her free time, she enjoys bike rides, continuing to learn Chinese and travelling. 

Zadkiel Elder

Economics Teacher

Zadkiel Elder is from California, USA, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from the University of California, Riverside. He also holds a Master of Arts in Economics from San Diego State University. Additionally, he earned teaching credentials from the University of West Florida and the University of Sunderland in London. In 2021, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Indiana University East. 

After working as an intern economist with the U.S. Department of Labor, Zadkiel transitioned to teaching in Asia, where he discovered his passion for the classroom. He first taught economics in Kazakhstan, where he met his wife, also an educator. For the past ten years, Zadkiel has lived and taught in China while helping to raise his 9 year old daughter. 

Zadkiel is dedicated to delivering student-centered lessons that encourage curiosity and critical thinking. His goal is to inspire lifelong learners who embrace the challenge of exploring new ideas and deepening their understanding. 

As we embark on a new school year, the arrival of each new teacher enriches and strengthens the diversity of our academic team. We wish them a fulfilling and rewarding journey at DHSZ and look forward to seeing our students grow under their guidance in the months ahead.
